Coaching
Philosophy
I am Coach Ed, a fundamentalist who believes the foundation of any successful football program is built through daily attention to detail, discipline, and accountability. Football is a physical and mental game, and preparation determines outcomes. My coaching approach focuses on maximizing effort, teaching responsibility, and creating an environment where young men are positioned to compete with confidence and grow as people, not just players.
head coach
The head coach is responsible for setting the direction, standards, and expectations of the entire program. All decisions affecting players, staff, and the overall operation of the program ultimately fall under the responsibility of the head coach.
Effective leadership requires accountability and trust. While the head coach maintains final authority, success is built through collaboration with the coaching staff. Responsibilities include academics, team culture, practice and meeting schedules, scheme implementation, personnel decisions, media and parent relations, player safety, discipline, and communication with college coaches. The head coach must lead by example and model the behavior expected from the entire program.
Assistant coaches
Assistant coaches are the cornerstones of a successful football program. Their primary responsibility is player development, both on and off the field. This includes teaching fundamentals, reinforcing technique, and helping implement offensive and defensive systems.
Assistant coaches also serve as mentors and role models. They are expected to uphold, promote, and align with the philosophy of the head coach at all times. Open communication within the staff is encouraged, but philosophical or schematic disagreements should be addressed privately and professionally, away from players and parents.
players
Players are expected to conduct themselves with loyalty, honor, respect, commitment, and strong work ethic. Each player is responsible for following team rules, meeting expectations, and representing the program with pride in all settings.
A football player is not a football player for only part of the year. While multi-sport participation is encouraged, players are accountable for their actions year-round. This includes staying current with strength and conditioning programs, academic responsibilities, and team commitments. A team is built through daily individual decisions to do the right thing, the right way.
parents
Parents are a vital part of a successful football program, and open, honest communication is essential. Parent meetings should be held prior to each season and again in the spring to clearly communicate expectations, timelines, and commitments.
Parents are welcome to support the program and observe practices, but coaching decisions and instruction remain the responsibility of the coaching staff. Concerns should be addressed directly with the head coach through appropriate channels. A strong partnership between parents, coaches, and administration creates a supportive environment that benefits student-athletes.
conduct
Appropriate conduct is expected of every player throughout the entire year. Rules and expectations will be clearly communicated and enforced consistently. These standards exist to protect the integrity, safety, and culture of the program.
Certain violations may be handled on a case-by-case basis by the head coach, while others will carry clearly defined consequences outlined in the player conduct manual. Any player who cannot follow team rules or meet program expectations is subject to disciplinary action, including dismissal from the team.
